This all seemed rather underwhelming, apart from the jetpack games - they seemed pretty fun!

It's really dumb that they called the village Tanagra and had a dude in it named Darmok, but it gives me an excuse to put this image in this comment:

After watching/listening to most of the livestream, I concluded the Rift right now is a 600$ paper weight.

The sound at 35:21 is ripped directly from some other game but i can't put my finger on wich one

I haven't seen a single good VR game here. Not one. I've seen "This could be good , but why is it in VR??" games , and i've seen "this is good use of VR , but the game seems dull and not worth the money of the game , let alone the VR kit" games.

A DCS game with Oculus support and full HOTAS would be the flight sim I dreamed of as a kid.

But these games? They're going to have to make a better case for VR than this.

Jason needing some extra baby money, started doing game VO

I'm the opposite of Jeff. I want non-interactive story telling, learning experiences, and unique ways to watch movies. VR games just aren't a thing, the less I actually interact with the software, the better.

Man not a single occulus game I'd honestly want to play for more than 5-6 minutes tops. What a disappointing launch of trash.

This whole stream probably would have been better stretched over three days or something. Between the guys getting up hours early, struggling with game installs and setup for 11 hours, and not properly fitting the headset for each user, it's no wonder they were fatigued and grumpy by the end of it.

I watch and enjoy GB videos every day, but this isn't their best work.

@alwaysbebombing: I think Drew's experience with Jaunt is a good example of the issues with live-action movies. There's a level of parallax which needs real time rendering when viewed in a headset.

Would you mind expanding on how the headset improves the prospects for those sort of experiences over existing 2D/3D screen approaches?

The Jason-ness of that cart racing game's announcer can't be understated. It's uncanny to say the least.

It took me three days to watch this.

Beforehand, I thought I was going to buy a VR kit within the year. Watching this, I think I'll be waiting 2+ years for the software and hardware to improve. The resolutions and performance, in particular, looked rough as hell.

I've already bought an extremely high end PC, Track IR, and the Warthog HOTAS in the last year just for DCS and am waiting on a pair of MFG Crosswind rudder pedals. At this point, I've probably gone far enough down this rabbit hole that I should just buy a VR kit too...

Thank you for voicing this. This costumer segment seems to get lost on the Masterrace people: not all are interested in VR of games at all. I don't shun games, but some will. VR is more.

Well, VR has made me make a new avatar just for GB.

I'm not sure how I feel about all this business yet. I mean, we all knew the initial lineup would be like this, and who knows how it will develop from here. The experience itself is still nigh on unexpressable; not without us actually being in one of those headsets. But I can see some potential for the method of interaction. Once it sets in, I want to see how the next iterations can successfully subvert what is established. That said, if I'm excited for anything to come from VR, it's not so much games, it's how this sort of thing could be used for other software (like modelling software).

Jeff is so right! Watching Dan do this is almost unbearable with the amount of head movement he does. The other guys were fine but Dan is just twitching all over the dam place !

That was an epic stream, too me a few days to watch. I'm definitely interested in getting a VR headset but I'm leaning more towards PSVR at the moment, but I have yet to see what the Vive is capable of.

I'm disappointed, I really wanted to see some non-game functionality, like watching movies or making phone calls in VR or using a VR desktop or crazy social stuff.

I guess I'll wait to build my new computer when that stuff is there.

I pre-ordered the Rift but then quickly cancelled it when I realized that my current PC, like Jeff's probably was just under the line. I have a newish GTX 970 but an old i7 2600K at 3.4ghz. Also, I want to wait and see which headset becomes more prevalent. We have a classic HD-DVD vs. BluRay situation here folks. Rift plus touch controllers is almost definitely going to be $800, just like the Vive.
